We are finally riding and not a day too soon. I find it much more relaxing to be riding a Scooter than driving that huge truck. So after some rest I can say I am not grumpy tonight. Still tried but that is to be expected after long day with some surprises.
First I had to fill the truck there was little trash around the vehicle but I thought nothing of its. But it required a lot of gas to fill so I suspect someone siphoned out about 10 gallons. Got to the budget location a little early and started to unload. My scooter came down the ramp easy but turning it around on the gravel it hit a rock and skidded and then fell. I have a few minor scratches but no cuts. I had no problem with Dianne’s bike.
So by ten we were loaded and off we went. The Portland traffic was busy but the ride was easy. Then the off trail stuff the suggested route directed us to take a back road and some very rude fat red neck turned us back. Then the recommended crossing was closed and the suggested bypass was on bike trial with stairs. IE 2 more turn arounds. Finally we had to admit that the best solution was 10 mile ride on the shoulder of the Interstate, I was not thrilled. The only real problem was tunnel without a shoulder. We waited for traffic to clear and ran through as fast as we could and did not have a problem.
So to summarize the route we followed was along the Columbia River Gorge on the Scenic old Route 30. I can tell you it was very scenic. Fantastic views of the river, some very high water fall, a couple of gorges and lots of pine forests. Then came some more mountain climbs and decent and many cherry orchards. So even though we had to reroute a lot we enjoyed the day.
So distance to be covered by plan was 89 miles. Distance covered in fact was 105 miles. The Start point was basically at Portland Airport and our final stop was Super 8 in The Dalles.
Here some pictures note I took more than 20 so these are the ones I thought gave a good taste of the ride.
