Day 19 Sept 15
Well this should be an short post as there was not much to talk about today. Therefore not a lot of pictures so the above was taken earlier in the trip.
It was a bad ride today note not miserable just uncomfortably wet and chilly. The weather said no rain after 8 am, so we left at 8:15. It started to drizzle almost as soon as we left. It became worse than a light rain but never better than a few drops every now and then. So the forecast was outright wrong. It is possible that the rain was following me as liberal in a conservative leaning area but I doubt that god is that vengeful.
We covered 102 miles to Council Bluffsin this poor weather and I was comfortable mainly due to the new jacket that kept both my head and chest dry. We followed beside I29 and stayed in the Missouri River Valley where it flat and the old roads were run straight as an arrow flights. But they were old roads so I did not count much today as visibility was not great with the water and roads were poor (bumpy and lots of pot holes), lacking shoulder and although the traffic was light there was steady run of farm trucks taking grain to the market or returning. Therefor my attention was keeping on the road and the wheels down. In addition the scenery was flat and wet so stopping just was not fun or interesting.
Other Notes:
- We did stop at Sergent Floyd’s memorial for pictures. Took of the monument and some looking over the river to Nebraska. He had to be reburied due to the fact that floods threatened his original gravel site.
- When they dug up Floyd’s bones they made casts of them and reconstructed his features for the museums.
- Crop harvest has started and some fields of corn are already combined flat
- We followed beside a train for about 5 miles today and I at last found out that they appear to travel at about 30 miles an hour. I did beep my horn at him but I do not think it made a difference
- To stay off the interstate we ran along Loest Hill that looked interesting
- I believe we are close to having only 1000 miles left to go.
