Day 20 Sept 16
I think that Dianne should be banded from reviewing the weather. She Told me, rain 8-9 then clear and high 80. Well that did not work out. We left at just before 9 and it was clear and cool (57F). After crossing the Missouri River it start to drizzel lightly. I put my hood up and we moved on. Then it was light rain I then tightened the bands on the sleeves for jacket. Then it poured. It rained so hard we stopped and got off the scooter as there was not other place. Finally it became a light rain and we moved on, only to have the skies open up a second time. This time I could see a truck repair spot and drove over to try to got out of the rain. The attendant came out, as the rain let up a little. I asked if we stand just in the garage he said, “The storm is past and OSHA rules means I can’t let you in. So we moved on again. The rest of the day we had drizzle, spitting rain and some light rain. It did reach 80 but when the wet bulb temperature is 60F it makes little difference I was cold.
To compound the weather the route fell apart. The paper route follows an rail to trials that we are not allowed on. So the route suggest by maps used a state 4 lane that banned scooter our size, Further down the route they are allowed but to get there we had to take a gravel road. Therefore 10 miles in we had 2 re-routing to do in the rain. I then tried a google route that looked get it was for 30 miles then it too when to gravel. Dianne does not do gravel happily so 3 rerouting took place. Once again it turned to grave so 4th route was selected using a point and shoot method. This one worked, the result was 120 mile day with rain, when I expected a 90 mile day and sun. This makes me grumpy. Basically we followed I 29 south but a long ways from it.
So after the 120 miles we are now in Falls City NE and after two cups of Decafe coffee I think I am human. But like yesterday I lack pictures so the Dianne is older one from the other bad rain day.
Other Notes:
- Crops are coming in
- I saw one field today that looked like it was planted with Jerusalem Artichokes an old Native American crop that is root crop. Normally I only see this plant wild and as a weed.
- Saw some increase in trash at the side of the road today.
- Found out that fuel light comes on at 111 miles after filling.
- Noticed there are two methods of passing us;
- they come up fast behind and just go for it if the road is open
- Or they get behind and ride there for a while hoping we will speed up I guess. Then we have to slow down and wave them on when the road is clear and there is a passing lane.
- Passed a huge Tyson food plant, a ConAgra plant and a Amazon warehouse today.

Stop whining and blaming Diane!
ReplyDeleteWhinning I do do. But I did not mean to blame Dianne just that keep telling me the weather is good and it is not! That should be viewed as blaming it is more like Whinning.
