Day 23 Sept 19

Well today was slice of haven. The starting temperature was 70 and it just got better all day so I started without jacket and enjoyed the whole ride.

Todays ride was 74 miles and passed through Arrow rock a flint rock that the native Americans used for tools and Arrow heads.  Arrow Rock was found in 1828 when the first pioneers passed across the Missouri River to start west.  The ferry dropped then off and locals realizes this was good opportunity to outfit the westward movement.  The Build the town called it New Philadelphia and then change the name to Arrow Rock.  This was the start of Santa Fe road and keep growing.  In the 1840 it was steamboat town and then a railroad town.  The pioneer village is really nice in the state park and it has the longest running raven and restaurant in the country they claim.  The river moved away from the town and it kind of. dwindled todays town of less than 500 people but still has many homes build through the 1800s.  The main industries was hemp and tobacco that depended on Slavery and civil war also ended those.  Other trades were agriculture products.

Boonville where we ended up is on the Katy trial a rails to trails bike path that runs about 300 miles. Again it steamboat town and railroad town.  It was settled by Danial Boone in 1799 with a land grant from Spain. In 1805 by Danial Boone sons build a salt production.  It had the same industries as Arrow Rock and was captured by the Confederates in 1863 close to the end of the war.  It did better than Arrow Rock two new industries started up corn cob pipes and shoe manufacturing.  These were operated into the 60 and 70s.  l

We are staying in a Casino on one of the river boat hotels.  Really not much of a boat but OK it meets the legal requirement.  Dianne spent about 2 hours playing and managed to break even after going down 20 dollars.
