Day 24 Sept 20

The forecast sucked today so I checked the radar and found a hole that should last 2 hours and we rushed to catch it.  It did work and we had only a little rain and we finished fast.  the ride was to be 48 miles and it took only 2 hours.  We did ride on pavement all the way which was not a problem but show how a few minutes make a big difference.  The route left Booneville and followed the Missouri river though hills and forested low lands.  We arrived in Jefferson City early and took to our room.

Now as soon as I got to the room I got a call from the Noblesville sheriff department saying I missed a jury call, therefore there was an arrest warrant for me.  I followed directions to a web site that looked OK but then officer on the other end started to demand payment.  This seem odd and he would take a credit card number they wanted cash.  At this point Dianne said it seem like a scam so I said I would call him back.  Then I called the Noblesville sheriff Department on Dianne phone using the number from the web and asked for the person.  I told it was a scam.  So I had to cancel credit cards and get new one sent in.  Lucky for us Dianne has her own card and she can use for he rest of the trip.  But just goes to show you anyone can get taken easily.  Man I am still pissed at missing so many signs of the problem and to give away a credit card number is just insane.  OH well nothing bad happened and no money was lost.

We then toured the Jefferson City Historic landing and State capital museum.  Both are worth the time to walk over too. Jefferson City started out as small trading post in early 1800 even before that the Spanish and French were here.  Then it was the end of the line for steamboats. It became a state capital in 1820 and remained so for many years even thought there were fires and votes to move it.  When the railroads arrived shipping on the river fell but for a few years Jefferson was way point where the off loaded freight from the train to steam boats to take further up river.  During the war Jefferson City was a Union held and there was never any real threat to the area, unlike the other towns we have passed though.  Currently it is fairly large 46,000 and has some industry but is heavily dependent on agriculture like the rest of the state.

Lucky for him (or me) as just as passed me a car came around at the top of the hill.  He came back fast but I had keep up speed I would have been beside him right then.
